Movie Review
Chef (2014)
Starting from scratch never tasted so
good
Chef is the comedy-drama film that
shows the connection to the two important things is work and family. The
director of Chef is Jon Favreau who is also the writer, director, producer and
main actor. Favreau plays to be Carl Casper who is the creative head chef at
the popular restaurant in Los Angelis. Casper divorced from his wife Inez (Sofia
Vergara), and they have son Percy (Emjay Anthony). Although the movie is about
cooking as the name “Chef”, but the message of the movie is about the
relationship in the family. The movie also makes the audience realize to the
important thing in work and family.
Casper works as the head chef in the
restaurant. He loves cooking, and he also spends a lot of time with his food,
so he doesn’t have enough time to take care his son. It also makes their
relationship become estranged. Casper tries to create the new menu for the
restaurant, but the owner doesn’t want it, so Casper decides to quit his job.
At that time, while Casper doesn’t have a job, his ex-wife and son asks him for
back to Miami where is their hometown. It changes Casper’s life again. He
begins to reconnect with his ex-wife, and he realizes that he should improve
the relationship between him and his son. Casper decides to fix up the food
truck for selling the Cubanos (Cuban sandwich) and sells it along the way back
to LA. He asks his son to join him, and this is the opportunity to enhance
their relationship between father and son.
"I
get to touch people's lives with what I do and I love it and I want to share
this with you," this are the words of Casper that he teaches his son. It
makes me know that he is a really good chef and a good father. However, I think
one more thing that makes Casper’s business popular is Twitter that his son
usually posts the pictures of the food truck on the twitter and people follow
it. Eventually, the movie will give the audience feeling warm in heart by showing
the relationship in the family and intention for the dream. I highly recommend
this movie for everyone, especially watching together with the family.
